Frostline is a seed-starting and succession-planting planner for vegetable gardeners. It needs no account, plans without a network, and turns your local frost dates into the days to sow, transplant and harvest.

Common questions

Where do the frost dates come from?

From NOAA's 1991–2020 climate normals. Frostline finds the nearest weather station to the place you chose and shows you its published last-spring and first-autumn frost dates, along with the station name and distance so you can judge how well it represents your garden.

They describe what usually happens. Gardens are famously indifferent to what usually happens, so treat the dates as a strong starting point and trust your own eyes on the day.

Can I adjust the dates?

Yes. You can set a risk appetite (10%, 25% or 50% frost risk), shift individual tasks, or shift the whole season. Your edits survive regeneration — adding a crop or changing your frost dates will never silently undo them.

A station near me looks wrong, or my crop is missing

Please tell me. Crop parameters come from university extension publications and each crop carries its sources in the app under Settings → Crop data sources. If something looks off, or you want a crop added, email the details.

Does Frostline need an internet connection?

No. The crop database, the place index and the frost normals all ship inside the app. It works in a field with no signal.

Does Frostline use my location?

No, and it never asks for location permission. You search for a city or ZIP code and the lookup runs offline.

Free and paid

Frostline is free for 5 crops, 1 bed and 20 photos — enough to plan a real first season.

Frostline Unlimited removes those caps and adds succession automation, rotation warnings, whole-season shifting, and PDF and CSV export.

The caps apply only to adding new records. Nothing is ever locked for viewing, and "Export everything" as JSON is free for everyone — including if you stop paying. You keep viewing and exporting everything you ever logged.

Managing a subscription

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, not by us. To view, change or cancel one, open the Settings app on your device, tap your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the current period ends.

Purchases restore on a new device via Restore purchases, on the Frostline Unlimited screen or in Settings.

Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Your data

Frostline has no account, no Frostline server and no analytics. Nothing you enter reaches the developer.

If your device is signed in to iCloud, your garden also syncs to the private database of your own iCloud account, so it shows up on your other devices. That is your storage, not ours — we cannot see it. Signed out of iCloud, Frostline keeps everything on the device and uploads nothing.
